Season steak generously with salt and pepper.
In a cast iron skillet (or other heavy skillet), heat oil over med-high heat.
Add steak and cook 2-3 minutes before flipping and cooking another 2-3 minutes for medium rare (amend for different doneness.) Remove steak to platter and cover with aluminum foil.
Turn heat down to low and add butter. Allow butter to melt and add garlic. Stir frequently until garlic lightly browned, about 3-4 minutes.
Slice steak into thin strips and drizzle butter on top.
